Singapore Biodesign Innovation Fellowship

Singapore Biodesign Innovation Fellowship is a seven-month, full-time program in Singapore for professionals interested in HealthTech, MedTech, and healthcare innovation.

Participants work in interdisciplinary teams alongside engineers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and business specialists. The fellowship follows the Biodesign methodology, taking fellows from identifying unmet clinical needs to developing and preparing innovative healthcare solutions for implementation.

The program includes hands-on training, mentoring, project development, immersion in Singapore’s healthcare system and the wider Asian innovation ecosystem, as well as an international immersion of up to three weeks in Silicon Valley. Travel and accommodation expenses related to official fellowship activities are covered by the program.

Fellows receive a monthly stipend of up to SGD 8,500, with the final amount depending on the participant’s previous salary. Medical insurance and additional benefits are also provided. As the fellowship is full-time, participants cannot combine it with other employment or studies.

The program is open to clinicians, healthcare and life science professionals, engineers, researchers, business professionals, and other applicants with relevant expertise and a strong interest in HealthTech or MedTech. Candidates are generally expected to have a Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, MD, MBBS, or equivalent professional qualifications. There is no age limit.

International applicants are eligible to apply. However, preference is given to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents. International fellows must be prepared to remain in Singapore after the fellowship and complete a 12-month work commitment in a relevant HealthTech role.

For the first stage of the application, candidates must submit a CV and a motivation essay of up to 600 words. Shortlisted applicants may then be asked to submit a video essay, provide referees, and attend a final interview. Up to five fellows are selected each year.
