The Sixi International Artist-in-Residence Project 2027 offers emerging artists from around the world the opportunity to spend three months living and creating in Nanjing, China.
Organized by Sixi Museum, a non-profit contemporary art institution, the residency supports artistic experimentation, interdisciplinary research, and international cultural exchange.
For 2027, the program will select four artists across two residency periods:
Spring: March – May 2027
Autumn: September – November 2027
Each residency lasts three months, with specific dates arranged according to the selected artists' preferences and the program schedule.
Applicants must propose a project addressing one of two themes:
1. Flux and Imprints: Contemporary Echoes of Migration History
This theme explores migration, cultural reconstruction, historical memory, and identity. Artists are encouraged to examine family histories, colonial legacies, personal narratives, and the relationships between historical archives and contemporary experiences.
2. Folds of Text: Cross-Media Intertextuality and Intervention
This theme encourages interdisciplinary experimentation involving literature, linguistics, music, sound, visual arts, and other creative media. Artists can explore new ways of combining, transforming, and interpreting different forms of expression.
The program provides financial and practical support, including:
Round-trip international flights
