Scholarship for Musicians and Singers

Bournemouth University offers the BU Music Scholarship for talented musicians and vocalists applying for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree. The scholarship is open to both UK and international applicants.

What the scholarship provides:

• free music lessons and additional support worth approximately £600 per year, including examination fees and assistance with purchasing music;

• the scholarship is initially awarded for the first year and may continue in subsequent years if the recipient continues to meet the requirements;

• access to Bournemouth University's musical community and opportunities to participate in concerts and university ensembles.

Eligibility requirements:

• applicants must be applying for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course at Bournemouth University;

• applicants must demonstrate strong musical or vocal ability and previous participation in ensemble activities;

• normally, applicants should have achieved Grade 8 ABRSM, Trinity, LCM or an equivalent qualification in their main instrument or voice;

• applicants should also have an academic background in music, such as an A-level in Music with grade C or above, or Grade 8 Music Theory;

• in exceptional cases, candidates with Grade 6 or above may also be considered, depending on available funding;

• two references from people qualified to assess the applicant's musical abilities are required.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an audition. Successful applicants are expected to contribute to the musical life of the university by performing at concerts and participating in at least one university ensemble. The scholarship is formally confirmed only after the applicant receives an unconditional firm offer from Bournemouth University.

Deadline: 30 November 2026 for courses starting in January 2027. Late applications may be considered if funding remains available
